環境応答が醸成する風景

熱帯都市クアラルンプール郊外に建つ、築40年の規格住宅の改修計画である。定年を迎えた施主は、24時間にわたる冷房中心の暮らしに身体的な負担を感じていた。そこで施主が幼少期を過ごした村落のように、木々の木陰や風を感じながら自然体で暮らせる住まいを目指した。既存の通気性に乏しい木造屋根を解体し、既存部材の一部を再利用しながら、風と陰を生み出す大きなキャノピーとして再構築した。樹木や水盤による蒸散効果を取り込み、最小限の空調域から半屋外空間まで、環境が緩やかに移り変わるグラデーションを計画している。

均質な冷房空間が増え続ける熱帯都市において、環境への応答が育んできた豊かな生活風景を、現代の住まいに再び取り戻そうとしている。

Environmental Living-scape

This renovation project transforms a forty-year-old standard house located on the outskirts of Kuala Lumpur.After retirement, the client began to feel the physical burden of living in a constantly air-conditioned environment. Inspired by memories of the rural village where the client spent childhood, the project sought to create a home where daily life could unfold in a more natural way, shaped by the shade of trees and the movement of the breeze. The existing poorly ventilated timber roof was dismantled and partially reused to form a large canopy that generates both shade and airflow. Incorporating the evaporative cooling effects of trees and reflecting pools, the design creates a gradient of environments ranging from minimally conditioned interiors to semi-outdoor spaces.

In a tropical city where homogeneous air-conditioned environments continue to proliferate, the project seeks to reclaim the rich living landscapes that have evolved through an intimate relationship between people and their environment, and to reintroduce them into the contemporary home.
