八坂の窓辺

西東京市にある在宅診療の拠点である。中高層集合住宅に囲まれた角地で、影となる時間が長く、周辺からの視線も気になる敷地だった。

往診車のため十分な駐車スペースが必要となり、1階をピロティとして開放、2階に天井高4mの執務空間を持ち上げた。外周には、近隣住宅と正対しないよう角度を振った窓辺空間を連続させた。保育や休憩、軽い打ち合わせに使いながら、街との距離を調整する緩衝帯としている。

駅近くの防火地域にあり、耐火性能の制約も大きい。構造体の被覆で内部が表層的になりがちな耐火建築だが、4mの天井高を活かし鉄骨格子状の表し天井とした。中央は高さ4.0mのワンルーム、外周は高さ2.1mの窓辺空間など、複数のレイヤーを重ね、全体とゆらぎが同居する空間とした。様々な方向から視線を避けながら安定した光を導き、凹凸のある左官仕上げでその光を受け止めた。

周辺環境と調停しながら、地域医療に従事する人々が心地よく執務する環境を目指した。

Windows of Yasaka

A home-visit medical clinic in Nishitokyo City. Set on a corner lot enclosed by mid- and high-rise housing, the site is cast in shadow for long stretches of the day, and the surrounding sightlines were something to reckon with.

Home-visit care relies on cars, so the ground floor was opened as a pilotis for parking, lifting a 4m-high workspace to the second floor. Along its perimeter, a row of small window bays is angled away from directly facing neighboring homes — used for childcare, rest, and casual meetings, while tempering the distance to the street.

Near the station, the site falls within a fire-prevention zone, bringing strict fire-resistance requirements. Fire-resistant buildings typically bury their structure behind cladding, flattening the interior. Here, the 4m ceiling height was used instead to expose a steel lattice ceiling. The center rises to 4.0m as a single room, the perimeter window bays sit at 2.1m — layers overlapping within one space, where wholeness and flux coexist. Light is drawn in steadily from multiple directions without exposing the interior to view, caught by a textured plaster finish.

Mediating its relationship with the surrounding neighborhood, the clinic aims to give those working in community medicine a workspace that feels good to be in.
